Airport automation
With more than a decade of experience in the airport sector, Elsag Datamat has acquired the detailed technological know-how needed to implement secure baggage handling solutions and systems that satisfy the needs of a modern airport.
Elsag Datamat offers a comprehensive platform of products for the integrated management of both physical processes and information flows.
The MBHS (Multisorting Baggage Handling System) is the product developed by Elsag Datamat specifically for baggage handling in airports.
MBHS uses cross-belt technology, with a continuous loop track and a constant sequence of carts fitted with motorised conveyor belts that move perpendicularly to the direction of the carts. The use of cross-belt technology ensures optimum handling and sorting of all articles, including objects that are fragile, have high friction surfaces, or are irregular in shape.
MBHS introduces a series of technological innovations that position the product as one of the most advanced and high-performance propositions in its category: synchronous linear motors to move the train of carts, motor-driven rollers to drive the cart belts and an induction power transfer system that does not require sliding contacts or on board batteries.
The design solutions adopted allow the MBHS to deliver high sorting throughput (over 10,000 carts/hour) and peerless operating flexibility, including the possibility of dynamically adjusting the speed of the system according to traffic requirements and therefore making significant savings on energy and maintenance costs.
